About the Area

The Cranberry Isles are a group of five islands – Little Cranberry (also called Islesford), Great Cranberry, Sutton, Bear and Baker islands – located off Northeast Harbor on Mount Desert Island. Little Cranberry and Great Cranberry welcome both year-round and summer visitors by ferries and private boats. Bear Island and Baker Island (home of the Baker Island Lighthouse) are not inhabited and Sutton is primarily a group of about twenty private summer residents with very little public access.

Great Cranberry Island is one of five islands included in the Cranberry Isles group located off Northeast Harbor. Great Cranberry enjoys an unparalleled view of the mountains of Acadia National Park from east to west, and is home to a thriving year-round fishing community. The population swells considerably during the summer months as the season begins and the regular summer residents return. The island has a daily ferry service and public docking year-round and is a popular destination for tourists and naturalists.
