Blue Hill is a vibrant, waterfront community that has long been popular with artists, musicians, and summer rusticators. It is home to shops, galleries, restaurants, a library, hiking trails, and a waterfront park.
Ellsworth is considered the “Crossroads of Downeast Maine.” The seat for Hancock County, the town is as vibrant as it is convenient in location, with quick access to Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park. Top quality medical care has been well-established in the area, as have cultural forums like the venerable Grand Auditorium.
Gouldsboro, located on the picturesque Schoodic Peninsula, encompasses the surrounding villages of Birch Harbor, Prospect Harbor, and South and West Gouldsboro. They have long been popular with artists, summer rusticators, and tourists. Schoodic Point is part of Acadia National Park, offering unsurpassed scenery and many wonderful places to hike, bike, and explore.
Grindstone Neck, named after a ship full of grindstones that foundered off the coast, was established in the late 1800s and is situated in Winter Harbor, Maine. It is possibly the best preserved of all the 19th century Maine summer resorts, in fact little has changed in the last century; bicycles are still the chosen form of transport. The area boasts a wealth of seasonal activities including a private yacht club, a nine-hole golf course, and tennis and swim clubs.
Hancock is a beautiful coastal town “Downeast” from Mount Desert Island that has been attracting summer visitors and residents for more than a century. It is also home to galleries, shops and restaurants, ranging from fine dining establishments to casual eateries.
Lamoine is a small coastal community at the head of Frenchman Bay. The town boasts two public beaches as well as Lamoine State Park. It is a 15- minute drive from shopping and restaurants in Ellsworth and a 40-minute drive to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.
Surry is a small seaside town located near Ellsworth and Blue Hill and is about a 40 minute drive from Mount Desert Island, Bar Harbor, and Acadia National Park. Restaurants, shops, galleries, and medical care are located about 15 minutes away in Ellsworth and Blue Hill.
Trenton, the gateway to Acadia National Park, provides easy driving access to locations, including Downeast Maine. The Bar Harbor Airport and Bar Harbor Golf Course, as well as many other attractions, line Route 1A through Trenton.
