Take advantage of the free Island Explorer shuttle. It's a great way to see more of the Island without driving, and it's just down the street at the Village Green. You'll also find easy access to Acadia National Park entrances just minutes away by car. Enjoy your morning coffee, and even some meals relaxing on the back three-season enclosed porch, or some peaceful time rocking on the front porch after a fun day in Acadia National Park! Bar Harbor is likely the best-known town on Mount Desert Island (MDI) as it is a popular vacation destination for visitors to Acadia National Park. Originally known as Eden, Bar Harbor boasts a vibrant year-round community with many shops, restaurants, and galleries. It is a busy seasonal port-of-call to many national and international cruise lines and is the main hub for the Island Explorer bus — a free service provided in the summer months by LL Bean — that shuttles visitors all over the island and beyond. Starting from Bar Harbor one can tour MDI by boat, kayak, bus, or trolley.
