About the Area

Somesville, part of the Town of Mount Desert, is the first village settled on Mount Desert Island in 1761. It earned the designation of National Historic District in 1975 and is located at the center of the Island along majestic Somes Sound. White clapboard homes with picket fences along a tree-lined road, a picturesque mill pond and striking arched walking bridge welcome you to this truly lovely seaside village.
