About the Area
Somesville, located at the center of the Island along majestic Somes Sound, was the first village settled on Mount Desert Island in 1761. Someville officially became a protected national historic district in 1975, and a slow drive through the village will certainly show why it is so dear in the hearts of many. White clapboard homes with picket fences along a tree-lined road, a picturesque millpond and a striking, arched walking bridge give this small village character and charm. Enjoy the small-time feel of Somesville while also being in close proximity to Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor.
