Rental of the Week: Sound of the Sea in Bar Harbor, ME

SoundoftheSea.01Sound of the Sea is currently under construction and will be ready for rental reservations as of June 2017. The photos are borrowed from its sister property, Rising Sun Cottage, to demonstrate the anticipated bedroom style and paint colors coming shortly. The house is set only 75 feet from the high tide mark and at low tide enjoy the glorious exposed granite ledges with Frenchman Bay lapping up over them. This is a perfect place to observe the spectacular thunderous waves during and after rain storms or enjoy a little bird watching as eagles frequently soar overhead. Sound of the Sea is conveniently located just a ten minute walk along the very private and beautiful Sols Cliff Road to reach nearby Acadia trails toward Sand Beach and Compass Harbor.

About the Area

Bar Harbor is likely the best-known town on Mount Desert Island (MDI) as it is a popular vacation destination for visitors to Acadia National Park. Originally known as Eden, Bar Harbor boasts a vibrant year-round community with many shops, restaurants, and galleries. It is a busy seasonal port-of-call to many national and international cruise lines and is the main hub for the Island Explorer bus — a free service provided in the summer months by LL Bean — that shuttles visitors all over the island and beyond. Starting from Bar Harbor one can tour MDI by boat, kayak, bus, or trolley. Steeped in history, the village is home to The Jackson Laboratory, world renown for genetics research, and College of the Atlantic as well as many notable points of interest such as the 1932 Criterion Theatre, historic “cottages” built along the rugged shores, the Shore Path and Balance Rock, as well as two charming village parks. Bar Harbor has everything a year-round or seasonal visitor could expect to find yet retains that small-town appeal.
