Enjoy the boating activity of the small marina next door, or explore the tidal shores immediately in front of you for sea treasures. Walk to the popular Thurston's Lobster Pound for the freshest seafood around. Great restaurants and park attractions are just a short drive away, but with such an appealing location, you may never want to leave!

FIRST FLOOR: Combined Living/Kitchen area with table that seats four. Queen sized futon, and sliders to front deck overlooking harbor. Full Bath with shower.

SECOND FLOOR: Bedroom with Queen bed and water views.

Note: Coin operated Washer and Dryer access in the ground floor entry of Bernard Boathouse next door, shared with marina customers.

EXTRAS: Shared use of several kayaks and life jackets.

For experienced boaters, a mooring and/or boat can be rented for an additional fee. The owner's rental fleet consists of a Hinckley pilot, Sabre 30, Boston whaler, and more.

About this area:

The 'quiet side' of Mt. Desert Island, which includes Bass Harbor, Tremont, Seal Cove, and Bernard on the southern and western sides of the island, is much more rural in nature and only about twenty to thirty minutes to major park entrances. What Bass Harbor lacks in shopping, it makes up for in seafood restaurants and local color, as this is a village with a true 'Down East' flavor, as well as the famous Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse.

Boat House Cottage

The weather was typical for fall (we have been on MDI a week every fall since '13) but never have we seen such lush foliage color, a real treat! We attempted the Giant Slide trail and it was too strenuous for one human and our dog, so pick that at your peril. New coffee place in SW Harbor behind the public library is great for when Sips is too hard to get to because of the crowds.

We really enjoyed our stay at Bass Harbor. It was quiet and beautiful, right on the water. The park and trails were easily accessible. The cottage was perfect for the two of us.

Loved the location, staying on a working harbor may not be for everyone but we enjoyed watching the boats going out every morning and coming back in. Looking out the window was like a looking at a postcard. Walked to the docks and talked to the lobsterman as they were unloading their catch. Walking distance to Thurstons Lobster pound. When they say quiet side of the island they aren't kidding. We loved it. Only 1/2 hr to Bar Harbor/Acadia.

One of our favorite things about staying at Bass Harbor Head Cottage is the wide sky view - the sunrises, and moon sets, were especially wonderful this time. We can't decide if this was our 3rd or 4th stay at Bass Harbor Head Cottage, but we do plan to return - its a wonderful setting!
