And it's all within walking or biking distance to Acadia National Park and the village of Bar Harbor! Bagatelle was designed and built in 1887 by famed architect, Arthur Rotch, who designed twenty Bar Harbor "cottages" between 1883 and 1890. Today, it's one of only seven Arthur Rotch cottages that survived the great fire of 1947. Lovingly restored by expert craftsmen, rich interiors express the well-measured exuberance of Victorian residential architecture. With lavish moldings, fine wainscoting, and elaborate hand-carved mantels, the period's desire for invention and variety are evident.

About this area:

Bar Harbor's village and surrounding rural residential areas are a popular destination for visitors to Acadia National Park. The town center offers diverse shops, restaurants and activities. Acadia National Park's Hulls Cove entrance, as well as other major entrances, are located just outside the village center. Not all properties listed as 'Bar Harbor' are actually in the village of Bar Harbor, since the town of Bar Harbor encompasses the northern half of Mt. Desert Island, most of which is quite rural in nature. However, homes within this area are usually between five and fifteen minutes' drive to the village center.

My family rented Bagatelle for my mother's 70th birthday. It was perfect beyond words. Waking up every morning to that beautiful view on the water and drinking coffee on the porch was my favorite part. The house is charming and historic and never felt crowded even though we had 11 people. We were able to walk to Bar Harbor and ride our bikes to Acadia. Thank you for a great week!
