Property Description:

This well-maintained and cared for property seemingly has it all. Inside you'll find everything you need for a comfortable stay, including a glass-door wood stove for cozy Maine nights and a fully stocked kitchen for entertaining. Although this property is part of a duplex with its attached companion, Clarkside, the house was specifically designed so decks on both sides are private with extra sound barriers between the two sides for added privacy. Take the pretty path through the field to enjoy beach combing along the beach or paddling kayaks you've rented or brought from home. With protection from outer islands, the calm tidal beach is also Ideal for picnics or a cold swim, if you dare! Retreat back to comfortable interiors if the evening gets cool or down to the shops and restaurants of Southwest Harbor located only one-half mile away. Even closer is Beal's Lobster Pound and the free Island Explorer shuttle running through the village as it travels from Bass Harbor to Bar Harbor with a variety of stops or transfer points in between.

FIRST FLOOR: Fully equipped Kitchen. Open and casually furnished Dining and Living area with wood stove and access to a sunny deck facing away from the other side of the duplex. Half Bathroom.

SECOND FLOOR: One Bedroom with a King bed made from a set of twins put together and a second Bedroom with Twins separated. Both bedrooms have ocean views. Shared, renovated Full Bathroom with combined tub and shower.

GARDEN LEVEL: The finished lower level with access outside offers a Bedroom with Queen bed and a small common area with sofa, each with water views. Bathroom with shower only, no tub.

OUTDOOR SPACES: South facing deck with furnishings and water views over the natural field that leads to a shared beach.

NOTE: As indicated in a photo above, Southside is on the left side of the duplex with space for only two cars in the parking area. The beach is shared with Clarkside and one other dwelling situated behind the duplex. Laundry in separate building is shared with 2 other units.

About this area:

Mt. Desert Island's second largest village, Southwest Harbor, features a charming Main Street with an appealing assortment of shops and restaurants. The neighboring village of Manset, which is along the southern shore of the harbor, tends to be rural in nature but features a number of excellent restaurants and boatyards, including Hinckley Yacht Yard and Morris Yachts, both of which boast an international reputation. If Bar Harbor is the 'gateway' to Acadia, Southwest Harbor is the gateway to Acadia's westside trails and attractions, including Seawall, Ship's Harbor, and Echo Lake, all between five and eight minutes from the village center.



This was the perfect family rental. Our two toddlers loved the beach and the rest of us loved having the wood stove available for a couple of rainy October days! The separate downstairs space (bedroom, bathroom and sitting area) was ideal for offering added privacy for my Dad.
